“SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE”

“SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE”

Simple Present Tense is one of the most general tenses in English. This tenses will explain the rules for forming the tense with regular verbs.

A.   Simple Present Tense has 3 function :

  1. Indicate the same activity every time. It’s not daily activity but habit/ regular activity. The point is THE TIME NEVER CHANGE.
Example: - I usually see him in the lobby on Saturday.
-   Dhila goes to school at 7 o’clock every day.

  1. General statement of fact/ General truth. No body can denied the fact. The point is MUST HAVE THE SAME ANSWER.
Example: - The sun sets in the west.
-   Oxygen consist of Hidrogen dioxide & Carbon dioxide (H2O & CO2)

  1. Talking about OPINION. About THINKING.
Example: a.  According to Debora grammar is challenging.

                         >>“According to” is showed the Debora opinion.

                         b. In my opinion, he is handsome.

>> “In my opinion” showed about my opinion.

B.   Time signal that usually used in Simple Present Tense is:

Always, usually, often, never, sometimes, everyday, every week, once in a while, nowdays, normally, and so on.

C.   Simple Present [THE KIND OF VERBAL SENTENCE] has 3 type formula:

  Ø  POSITIVE SENTENCE FORMULA >> S + V1 + s/es/ies + O/ Adverb

This formula usually used in positive sentence.

We must add “s/es/ies” in the last word of Verb1 when the SUBJECT is Singular
(She,He,It). And we are not add “s/es/ies” in the last word of Verb1 when the
     SUBJECT is Plural (They,We,I,You).

         For the example:

a.   When Added “s/es/ies”

·      She loves singing everyday. => love + s
·      He watches drama every week. => watch + es

b.   When Not Added “s/es/ies”

·      I love him everyday. => love without s
·      They watch drama every week. => watch without es

  Ø  NEGATIVE SENTENCE FORMULA >> S + Do/Does + NOT + V1 + O / Adverb

This formula usually used in negative sentence with added NOT after
auxiliary.
We used auxiliary “Do” when the SUBJECT is Plural (They,We,I,You).
And we used auxiliary “Does” when the SUBJECT is Singular (She,He,It).

     For Example:

a.   When use “Do”
·      We don’t get bad score for Grammar.
·      You don’t remember your promise.

b.   When use “Does”
·      He doesn’t get bad score for Grammar.
·      She doesn’t remember her promise.

  Ø  INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE FORMULA >> Do/Does + S + V1 + O/ Adverb + ?

This formula usually used in interrogative sentence.
We used auxiliary “Do” when the SUBJECT is Plural (They,We,I,You).
And we used auxiliary “Does” when the SUBJECT is Singular (She,He,It).

    For Example:

a.   When Use “Do”
·      Do you have any problem ?
·      Do they watch the football competition ?

b.   When Use “Does”
·      Does he remember his promise ?
·      Does she forget her promise ?

D.   Simple Present [ THE KIND OF NOMINAL SENTENCE ] has 3 type formula:

  Ø  NOMINAL POSITIVE SENTENCE >>

             S + to be (is,am,are) + non Verb / Complement

Example: - Love is blind.
-  We are students in 1 SA 05.

Nominal Positive Sentence has an EXCEPTION, that is: if before “to be” there is an auxiliary especially modals , we should change “to be” into “be”.

Example:  I will be better soon. (“will” is modal , so we have to change “to
                                                     be” into “be”)

  Ø  NOMINAL NEGATIVE SENTENCE >>

S + to be (is,am,are) + NOT + non Verb / Complement

Example: He is not my boyfriend. (we must add “NOT” after to be.)

  Ø  NOMINAL INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE >>

To be (is,am,are) + S + non Verb / Complement + ?

Example:
  1. Is it your candy ?
  2. Am I a student ?
  3. Are you crazy ?
