National Arena is interesting ski sports tourism arena that we should visit
when we comes to Oslo, Norway. Norway is the part of Northern Europe. Norway
means “the northward route” (the “way north” or the “north way”).

Holmenkollen
National Arena is the one of many famous places in Oslo. It is consists of two
main ski jump arena. First, the name is Holmenkollen Ski Jump Tower or
Holmenkollbakken and the other one is Midtstubakken Ski Jump.
Here, we can
watch the ski jump events, visit the Holmenkollen Ski Museum and trying Ski
Jump Simulator.

This is the
large ski jump hill which has height 64 meters above the ground. This place has
a capacity for 30.000 spectators. More than a million tourists visited this
place in every year. It has been rebuilt for ± 19 times since 1892 (From a hill
till now form a building). It has hosted for Winter Olympics, World Cup
Tournament and World Championships ski competitions each year. It is not merely
a sports venue, but also as the tourist magnet of note. We can go to the top of
the jump tower that offers panoramic views of Oslo by using elevator.
When we visited
this place in the summer, we can’t jump from the Holmenkollen Ski Jump but we
can enjoy abseiling or zip line that is not less interesting and fun. And then,
we can go to the Holmenkollen Ski Museum to trying the sensation of Ski
Simulator. The best record for Ski Jumping had ever made by Andreas Kofler at
141 meters on March 5, 2011.

Midtstubakken
is a normal ski jump hill. It has a capacity for 16.000 spectators. World
Championships held three times in this place at 1966,1982, and 2011.

Holmenkollen Ski
Museum building places at the base of the Holmenkollen Ski Jump arena. It has believed
as the oldest ski museum in the world and being founded in 1923. We can know the origins of skiing as
a culture of Norway in particular and Europe in general. The museum contains 4000 years of skiing history and see skis
from the vikings, or those that belonging to the Royal Family of Norway. The
oldest evidence of history known from a stone carving about 4000 years old that
was found in a region of Norway called Rødøy.
In the carving depicted a male figure standing on top of the board was
holding a stick. Models such as this ski has long been suspected to be used by
travelers and hunters during the winter in that period. The objects on display
are mostly native heritage. for example, there is the oldest ski from Alvdal
area and used in the year 600 A.D. This tool is found in the Marshland area in
1906 and is made of pine wood. There are ski history as part of the expedition
of scientists to the polar regions, such as
Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen, Børge Ousland.
THE SKI
SIMULATOR
The ski simulator next to the Holmenkollen Ski
Jump open 365 days a year. It has a
capacity of 12 persons and ride takes above five minutes. We can enjoy 3D effect to fly down from the
Holmenkollen Ski Jump almost 100 km/h. Via movie made by cameras attached to
the helmet and skis of TOM HILDE during the FIS Nordic World Cup in
Holmenkollen in 2011, the simulator gives you a great feeling of what jumping
in “kollen”. This is also completed by sound effects and wind gusts to give the
sensation of the true skiing simulator to passengers.

Midtstubakken, Stadium, Holmenkollen Ski Museum, Holmenkollen Rica Park Hotel,
Holmenkollen Chapel, and Holmenkollen Line.

minutes from Oslo.
TRANSPORTATION
To reach the hotel or Holmenkollen Bakken from Oslo Gardermoen International Airport, we can using the public
transportation in Norway, especially in Oslo that called Oslo Metro. Or other transportation like bus, taxi or car. From Oslo city
centre, it takes around 20 - 30 minutes to get to Holmenkollen.
